Amazon Arrow's Power Quest: Thane

Description

Having Precognition was such a time saver. Amazon Arrow knew that Thane would be looking for her, and she foresaw the exact path he would travel as he began his search for her, so she just flew along and intercepted him. She wasn't sure what his powers were (or even if he really had any), but someone whose hair glowed certainly had to have something to offer.

When collecting powers before, she had savored the hunt, stalker her prey, and reveled in their futile struggles. She didn't have time for that kind of trivial self-indulgence now. She needed as much power as she could collect as quickly as possible; time was a factor, and as she already knew that Thane intended to do battle with her, she might as well get him out of the way.

She struck suddenly from above as he was racing through a back alley. With flight, speed, and agility on her side, this should have been over quickly. He barely seemed to be moving as she created her Soul Arrow and aimed for his head, but just when the arrow should have connected, he was gone! Whirling around quickly, she spotted him a few yards away, watching her coldly.

He opened his mouth to say something and Chryseis darted towards him as fast as her enhanced could go, arrow pointed directly at his throat. But he raised his hand even faster than she was moving and a glittering barrier formed between them. She struck it head on. The impact didn't even phase her. Thanks to The Broads donation of her virtual invulnerability, it was no more painful than bouncing off a mattress. However, the field had vaporized her Soul Arrow.

Unperturbed, she created another and went at him again. They went back and forth for what seemed like ages. Every move she made, he countered. Her vapor form couldn't pass through his field any more than her arrows could. Fast as she was, he always managed to teleport away or block her attack at the last minute. The few times she did get past his field he managed to redirect her hand holding the arrow before she could strike him. She struck him a few times with her other, unarmed hand, and while the first few blows seemed like they hurt him, he barely noticed the later ones.

She set him on fire, but the flames faded away after a few minutes, and he had only minor burns. Her concussive blasts worked wonders the first two times she used them, but after that he was somehow able to redirect them before they reached him. Magic seemed to have very little effect on him from the outset, and before long it did nothing to him at all.

He was getting more blows in on her, too, and now they were starting to actually hurt. She tried shifting to vapor form when he struck at her to avoid the blow, but the second time she did, somehow, it connected! As the fight dragged on, Chryseis decided that this was becoming a waste of time. Her precognition told her that if she stayed and fought, impossible as it seemed, he would eventually best her.

As suddenly as she had attacked, Chryseis vanished. She expected him to give chase, but apparently he could only move at super speed for a split second at a time, and soon she was long gone. But she would be back. Whatever his power was, she had to have it. All she had to do was collect another power that would give her the edge she needed against him.

And she knew just where to get it.

My second entry in :iconamazonarrow:'s Amazon Arrow Power Quest contest.

This image was originally meant to have both indirect lighting and motion blur, which would have made it freaking amazing. Sadly, that proved to be too much for my machine to handle, and after much fussing with the settings, I finally settled for just Indirect Lighting.

This is the first of three images I have planned as entries into the competition.

Amazon Arrow is the OC of :iconamazonarrow: and is used with permission. If you want to see the excellent entries made by other artists, or are interested in participating in the contest, swing by her page and give it a look!
